Sherington CE School
  Physical Education
  • At Sherington we aim to develop an enjoyment of physical activities and to teach the physical skills children need to improve their own individual performance.
  • An active and extensive programme of PE activities are followed at Sherington. The main elements being gymnastics, dance and games.
  • PE is taught both indoors and outdoors. Classroom 2 is 'cleared' twice a week and used for gymnastics, dance and apparatus work. During the better weather we use the playground and our large field. The children should always have their PE Kit in school (See Uniform).
  • During the summer term the children participate in a variety of team sports.
  • Our summer sports evening is an annual village event and is always well supported.
  • All staff are qualified to teach PE and at present one member of staff is qualified in PE as a specialist subject.
  • The school works with outside sports agencies, for example, the children have, in the past, benefited from hockey and soccer coaching.
Ofsted 2001: "The pupils are very keen and eager to respond and participate in PE and try hard to improve their own performance. They listen well to instructions and show high levels of interest. Pupils sustain concentration well and stay on task."
