“At the double”

  • We are delighted and just a little bit proud of Sherington Football Club, the 2008/09 season has just finished and we are chuffed to report several successes during the season. Sherington’s first team were crowned champions of the North Bucks and District League Intermediate division late in April, with a couple of games to spare and will be promoted back to the premier division after an absence of several years. The team were also crowned league cup winners after a thrilling extra time win against a spirited and resilient Silverstone team at Buckingham Towns Ford Meadow ground on Tuesday 12th May. Great to see so many locals, many ex players, who made the short trip to Buckingham and cheered the lads on way into the night, so after around 30 odd games this year in the league and cup its gratifying for the club to be rewarded for their hard work with not one but two trophies this year.
  • Earlier in the year we entertained local rivals Olney Town Reserves in the 4th round of the Berks & Bucks County cup, losing out narrowly, a great game played between two very sporting sides, and yes we did give them a good run for their money, given that they play in a much higher league we can again be very proud of our efforts.
  • The reserve team finished the season strongly and can also be proud of their efforts during a long hard season which saw them consolidate their position in Division One (to which they were promoted last year) and look forward to raising the bar again next season.
  • As if all these accolades weren’t enough, we were also presented officially (after the cup final win on the 12th) with our FA Charter Award by the Chief executive of the Berks & Bucks FA, Brian Moore. This occasion was a great honour for all those who have been involved in Sherington Football Club over the last 40 years or so and also because a few years ago Brian, who is an ex Sheringtonian did indeed pull on with pride the Sherington FC shirt.
  • So, a huge well done to all the guys who have played, helped out, supported the club through the season and here’s to next year. The club would also like to thank the Parish Council for their continued support through the year. Finally, we are always on the look out for new blood be that players, supporters, helpers you name it!, If you have the odd hour or so spare to help out we would be delighted to hear from you. Please contact Jason Giller on 610140 for more details.
