  Christmas News

  • A cast of just twenty-six young performers produced a show worthy of many more, older children. In re-telling the story of the Nativity we saw the dilemma of a young mother - "Will I get the knitting finished in time?". At once humerous and moving, the story unfolded through the songs and actions of a cast committed to excellence and enjoyment through drama. A lot of learning, team-building and fun went into the preparations and we had many to thank for the final effort. Well done all!

  New School Profile

  • Each year schools are required to produce a document called the ‘School Profile’ (this has replaced the previous format of an annual Governors’ report to parents). Our new school profile(2006-2007) is now available as follows:

  24 November 2007

  • “Clever Mrs Wing” a year 2 pupil exclaimed on seeing our finished tapestry. A heartfelt thank you to Mrs Wing, Mrs Feasey, Sue Temple & Kay Turrell amongst others for contributing to our masterpiece which was completed in time for a viewing by the Queen. (Celia, we do hope you didn’t get in trouble for rifling through your friends’ button boxes! -AB).
Tremendous tapestry!Whole school effort
  • We have begun the run up to Christmas; normally a banned word in school until December is upon us. But a few nativity songs and some card designs for the church bazaar hardly count as full-on preparation (though there was mention of a visit from Santa Claus, a party, staff and governors ‘do’, costumes, dress rehearsals...............). We will as usual perform a Nativity Play in St Laud’s Church this year on Thursday 13th December @ 1-30pm and Friday 14th December @ 6-30pm.

  • We were grateful to see Mrs Caroline Leslie in school to talk about her ideas for designing the school logo. This symbol of our collective identity was discussed and led to children designing family ‘crests’ for themselves. A wider topic of what it means to ‘belong’ is transmuting into ‘Why do Christians give presents at Christmas?’ (that word again).
  • A week or more of ‘Positive Contributions’ led Reception children to plant a daffodil bulb for each child to take part in the Marie Curie ‘Pots of Care’ appeal. Year 1 made us all a Pumpkin Pie and Year 2 some Pumpkin Soup for the whole school (aided by Mrs Rogers in the kitchen once again). The whole school took part in a ‘Show racism the red card’ Assembly and activity with Keith and Abdul and we were most excited to see a DVD of National Winners including our own ‘old boy’ Ryan coming through triumphant. Home-grown vegetables and role-models too!

  • French and recorder clubs continue enthusiastically with extra Gymnastic coaching from expert Mrs Liz Pattison enlightening pupils and staff alike.
  • From all the children, staff and governors we wish our friends and supporters a very Happy Christmas and a Peaceful New Year.

  • Mr Storey would like to thank the Headteachers, Staff and children of Chyngton Primary School, Seaford, St Paul's Catholic Primary School, Paulsgrove and St John the Baptist Primary School, Findon for sharing their enthusiasm and good practice in establishing and maintaining a school vegetable garden. May your pumpkins prosper! Keep up the good work, Colin
Happy Club

  Stop Press - October 2007

  • A new school club has been formed!
  • These children formed the Happy Club at playtime. Who can join the club and what should the rules be?

Autumn walks

  20 October 2007

  • Autumn arrived at Sherington School with our final crops of carrots, beetroot and potatoes supplementing the free fruit & veg supplied by the local authority. The latter formed the basis of our harvest lunch which was followed by our festival celebrations in St Laud’s Church the same evening.
  • We were joined over lunch by representatives of Sherington Pre-School and our VIP guest Mrs Christine Bearman who officially opened our bike shed (belatedly) and the new joint Pre-School growing plot. Thanks are due to Christine for her time and gift of a gardening token, to Oliver & Thomas Wright and to Mason Dowd for their gifts of apple trees to begin the planting in the plot. Also thanks are due to Mr Crook of Sherington Garden Centre for a generous gift of seeds and pots.

  • Our National Healthy School trophy was The National Healthy School Trophydelivered by Mrs Pam Brandon from the local authority team and on the same day we were cheered along by ‘Mooey’ one of the MK Dons mascots. Sports Coach Chris, who has been training our Key Stage 1 children in Multisports, brought Mooey to help us celebrate.
  • Key Stage 1 made healthy sandwiches and side-salads from a buffet-style range of ingredients to complete their Design & Technology tasks.
  • We ended the half-term with some nice autumnal walks and rambles including a picnic lunch at the Perry Lane Recreation Area taking the opportunity to check our off-site facility.

  • Registrations are now being accepted for all children born after 1st September 2003 for entry in September 2008 and subsequent years, up to 2012. The date of entering school is determined by the date of birth, see the Admissions page for further details.
A happy return to school

  22 September 2007

  • The starting of a new academic year gives us pause for thought as we see our new cohort settle into the school family. This year has been no exception as the ‘old hands’ of Year 1 adopted their new Reception classmates and by offering guidance and support helped them into new daily routines.
  • A fine crop of wild blackberries in our hedgerows combined with the first apples in the new mini-orchard led to one enterprising pupil making us all a lovely crumble as her positive contribution to the school.
  • A follow-up ‘Bridge-Builder’ assembly by welcome return visitor Anna Bayman on the theme of ‘God’s Word’ complemented our opening RE topic of Belonging whether to home-family, school or the family of the church.
  • Apples for crumble
  • The PTFA financed an educational fun-day at the new Eco-Park in Milton Keynes which, although a little chilly, was an extremely enjoyable and informative trip. Stevie the baby Stegosaurus was a big hit as were the small ‘drama-documentary’ performances and host of varied activities.
  • Having won our Milton Keynes Bronze Healthy School award in 2005 we had been working toward the next Silver Level when the Local Authority suggested we go for the higher National Level. This we have now achieved and are aiming to raise this further to local Gold Standard in the following school terms.
  • We hosted the AGM of the Sherington Pre-School, said a final thank you and temporary Goodbye & good luck to Sue for all our liaison work over the previous decade. A welcome outcome with the new team will be continuing and extended liaison including their own growing plot in our school grounds.
