The St Andrew's and Sherington Church of England Schools' Partnership

  Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

  • We encourage all our children to enjoy ICT and gain a sound basis in skills, knowledge and understanding whilst they are at Sherington.

  • In ICT the children learn how to use computers, printers, scanners, digital cameras and programmable robots - 'Bee-bots'. They learn about the important role IT plays in our everyday lives.

  • IT skills are taught through specific ICT sessions throughout the year, but increasingly ICT knowledge and understanding is used through other subjects. For example, maths software may be used to support or reinforce the teaching of a specific mathematical skill, a graphics programme may be used in art or design & technology lessons, emails may be used in a literacy lesson on 'letter writing' or the internet may be used to research information needed for a historical topic.

  • We have a high ratio of computers to pupils at Sherington. Foundation Stage pupils have access to 6 'Windows' based computers. We have 6 RM Windows machines in Class 2. The Internet connection is 'Broadband' allowing greater access to online resources, through a protected server to ensure child safety. Interactive whiteboards in both classes are networked to give additional computer access.
