  • Children may start Pre-school at the beginning of the term when they will be turn 3. Most begin with 2-3 sessions per week, and add additional sessions when parents and staff feel they are ready. In the year before they start school, children may join the Fun on Friday's session, though this session may be suspended in the autumn term due to insufficient demand.

  • On Fridays, we hold a session just for our older children. Activities are specially planned to increase readiness for school, and to extend play across all the areas of learning. With between 6 - 12 children and two members of staff, we are able to do more small group work, where all the children co-operate to produce results. Games and activities to encourage number and letter recognition, initial sounds, counting and sorting and early science experimentation are all part of the programme. With greater individual attention, we are able to work on language enrichment, with many opportunities for the children to talk and listen, and responding to what they hear and see. We encourage quiet reading, both individually and in a group. Choice of activity is still a feature, but on Fridays we aim to stretch the childrens' attention spans, so that they begin to learn to complete what they begin. The session is more structured than those on Monday - Thursday, with a balanced mixture of talking, writing, exploration and physical activities. It works well as a transition between Pre-school and School, and the children enjoy their status as "big ones."
  • You are always welcome to come and see a Friday session in action, though be warned - you're more likely to get drawn into an activity than just sit and watch!
