June 2008

Dear resident

Over the weekend of Saturday 5th July to Sunday 6th July 2008, as part of their 25th anniversary celebration, members of the Long Distance Walkers Association will be taking part in a “Holy Hobble” which involves walking 60 miles in 26 hours from the 20th century Milton Keynes City Church to the 10th century church in Earls Barton.

The walkers will be using the pavilion at Perry Lane Recreation Ground as a checkpoint along their planned route, overnight between the hours of 8pm on Saturday 5th July to 8am Sunday 6th July.

Walkers will be approaching Sherington from the bridge over the A509 that becomes Perry Lane, pausing at the pavilion to use the facilities and have some refreshments, before continuing on down Crofts End, into the High St, and into the field behind via the public footpath just before the flats. They will then carry on “off road” towards Lathbury past Charlesberry Kennels.

The gates will still be closed over night as usual, and it is only anticipated that there will be a possible one or two vehicular movements during these times as the volunteer marshals will be stationed at the pavilion for the duration stated above; and the walkers themselves will be coming through in groups of two or three and so should not create any undue levels of noise other than that created by footsteps and quiet talking.

Nevertheless the parish council feels that it is important to notify you in advance in case of any concern, and it is hoped that you will be able to make allowances for any minimal disturbance that may occur.

Best regards

Mrs Wendy Austyn
Clerk, on behalf of Sherington Parish Council
